The Government Railway Police (GRP) yesterday arrested the five accused who hit and injured a senior television journalist on a train. Some commuters had assaulted Sudhir Shukla, who boarded a train from Mira Road, for trying to capture on video, a brawl inside the compartment on Wednesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vishal Dongri, 28, Vivek Dhumal, 32, Ravindra Ranavde, 28, Sanjay Ambavle, 32, and Rajesh Gothale, 28. All accused hail from Nalasopara. Purshottam Karad, DCP GRP said, "We have arrested the five accused in 72 hours after the crime. All the accused work in a BKC-based company and have no criminal record," Police arrested them under Sections 395 (dacoity), 397 (robbery), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 341 (wrongful restraint) of Indian Penal Code.
The incident
Shukla sustained head injuries in the incident. The journalist from a leading Hindi channel had tried to pacify some people who had objected to commuters who boarded the train from Mira Road station. When they didn't stop, he tried to capture them on video in his mobile phone. But some of them snatched it and hit him.

"They started assaulting me for taking a video of the incident. One of them held me by my collar and threatened to throw me from the train," Shukla said. When they saw blood flowing from Shukla's head they stopped.
