Local goons beat up a constable in a drunken condition near Subhash Nagar, when the latter refused to give them money. Constable Shrikant Thorat is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where he was admitted with major leg injuries.
Rushed to hospital
According to the police, Thorat, who is currently posted as a driver at the Mumbai commissioner's office, was on his way home in Nahur, when suddenly three men stopped him and asked him to handover whatever cash he had.
When he tried calling the control room number, the trio warned him not to do so. However, when they got to know that he was a policeman, they started hitting him. On spotting the incident, passersby immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital in a critical condition.

Probe starts
On being informed, the local police registered an FIR under sections 397, 452, 323, 505 and 34 of IPC and started investigating the case.
Speaking to mid-day, a police officer said, "We immediately formed a team and started looking for the accused. The arrested trio has been identified as Asif Shaikh, Rahul Bhosale and Kishor Raut. They stay in the same locality and have a habit of drinking alcohol. When the victim refused to give them money, they hit him using their hands and legs."
