A case has been registered against a 65-year-old for allegedly raping the daughter of his house help for more than six months. The shocking incident took place in Waliv, in Vasai. The survivor (13) is pregnant, and is in fact in her final trimester. The accused is said to have fled to US.

According to report in Mumbai Mirror, Pramila (name changed) is employed as a maid in a number of houses in Waliv, including the accused Martin Lopez's. Her minor daughter too would accompany her to the places on holidays, or sometimes even to fill in for her. Mumbai Mirror reported that, in September, Pramila asked her to go for work at Lopez's home during the Ganapati holidays. This is when the broke down, and revealed about her ordeal to her mother.

"My daughter told me how Martin would send his wife out on some pretext or the other, and then force himself on her. She was raped, multiple times," Pramila told Mumbai Mirror. She added that Martin threatened her daughter with dire consequences if she opened up about the assault on her.

Pramila further told Mumbai Mirror that Martin promised he would take care of their medical expenses provided she didn't register a complaint. In October, however, Martin and his family disappeared.

According to the survivor's family, cops initially refused to take down their complaint, and took cognisance of the matter only after protests. "She was sent for a medical check-up, and the doctors confirmed that she had been raped and was six months pregnant," Varun (name changed), the girl's brother, told Mumbai Mirror.

"We registered the crime and did all the investigations. But by that time, the accused Martin Lopez had already left for America. We are now putting pressure on his family to find out more, but until he returns, there is nothing we can do," said Subhash Markad, investigating officer and assistant police inspector, Waliv while speaking to Mumbai Mirror

The paper further reported that Pramila and Varun are being helped by a local NGO called Madat, and they hope to put the baby up for adoption. "The doctors said she is too young to be carrying a child and that is severely impacting her health. But it is too late to go in for an abortion," Pramila told Mumbai Mirror.
