A thief, who is allegedly involved in a series of vehicle thefts in the city, was on Thursday nabbed by the Mumbai Crime branch from Bandra West. Following a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Bandra Reclamation and arrested him. Sources said that the accused, identified as Rizwan Shaikh, 28, who is originally from Pratapgadh, Uttar Pradesh had been allegedly involved in as many as five car thefts across the city over the past several months.

The accused used a master key to open doors of the parked cars. Once he managed to get into the car, he'd drive down with the car to the national highway in UP. He would then contact his counterparts there and sell the cars at throwaway prices.
On Thursday, Police Inspector Mahesh Desai of crime branch Unit IX received information about the accused meeting up with a friend near Bandra reclamation to meet a friend. A trap was laid, and he was then nabbed, and handed over to the DN Nagar police, where a case has been registered against him.
