An extramarital affair between a 37-year-old married woman and a 22-year-old carpenter took an ugly turn after the latter killed the woman's spouse in cold blood.

While the Kapurbawdi police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case, the murder angle was probed after the deceased's 19-year-old daughter approached the police on Tuesday and accused her mother Sandhya Kende and Amir Khan of murdering her father Yogesh (47). The deceased was a sales executive at a Mumbai-based private firm.

"Both accused were arrested on Tuesday. The court remanded them in police custody till March 1. Investigation revealed that they were in a relationship for the last two years. The deceased and his wife fought often after he discovered about her affair with a carpenter. Frustrated of these arguments, the woman called Khan at her residence in the wee hours of February 4 and they killed him. Khan sat on Yogesh's chest and smothered him to death using a blanket," said Inspector Sanjeev Patil, Kapurbawdi police station.

The duo then rushed Yogesh's body to a nearby private hospital, where they told the medical staff that he was suffering from various health ailments and probably succumbed to one of them.
"The daughter told us about the entire incident. She said the night Yogesh died Khan had visited their residence at 2 am and left an hour later. The duo confessed to their crime. Both have been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC," Patil said.
