In what could be termed as a major security lapse at a posh housing society in Oshiwara, thieves made away with two mobile handsets worth R40,000 from the residence of television actor Kanchi Singh. Singh has worked in serials like Aur Pyar Ho Gaya, Kahin to Hoga, Kasam and Sasural Simar Ka.

The incident occurred at the 18-year-old's first floor residence in Accord Apartment at Lokhandwala, in the wee hours of Monday. The two unidentified burglars had entered Singh's flat by smashing the bathroom window. Singh's father claimed to have seen the thieves, but said the duo fled the house the moment they spotted him.
"It is a major security lapse. The thieves could have turned violent and attacked Singh's father. Even worse, they could have killed him," said an officer from Oshiwara police station.
Commenting on the case, Senior Police Inspector Subhash Vele from Oshiwara police station said, "We will question the watchmen from both the shifts before recording their statements. The guards claim the thieves must have entered the building from behind, as they did not see anyone entering the premises in the wee hours. On the basis of information available, we have registered an FIR."
Strike two
Another society resident, requesting anonymity, said, "The building's security is useless and this wasn't the first time that thieves have struck. In the past, burglars decamped with booty worth R28 lakh from one of the flats."
