A 40-year-old man was arrested yesterday for raping his two minor daughters in Ulhasnagar. The survivors told the police that their father showed them pornographic clips and then raped them one by one in their mother's absence.
The accused resides in Ulhasnagar with his wife and two daughters aged 13 and seven years. While he was unemployed and an alcoholic, his wife worked as a domestic help in the neighbourhood.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when she had left for work, and the girls were home with their father. "The girls, in their statement, said the accused showed them pornographic video clips and then first raped the elder one and later the seven year old. He then threatened both of them that if they told their mother about it, he would beat them up," said PP Chaudhary, assistant police inspector, Vitthalwadi police station.
The same evening, the sisters told their mother, who registered a case against her husband under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012. He was arrested the next day and produced in court, which sent him to police custody.
"Both the girls have been medically examined and we are awaiting the report. The 13-year-old said her father had been touching her inappropriately for more than a week and when she told her mother about it, her mother didn't believe her. On Saturday, when the girls told their mother about the incident, the accused pressured her not to go to the police but she got him arrested," added Chaudhary.
