A senior IPS officer of Additional Director General rank has been accused of molestation by a female staff member working at the Maharashtra Police headquarters
A senior IPS officer of Additional Director General rank has been accused of molestation by a female staff member working at the Maharashtra Police headquarters. In a written complaint to the Colaba police, the 32-year-old widow alleged that the senior officer called her to his cabin on Monday and touched her inappropriately.
The officer, who is expected to retire in a few months, however, claims that the allegations are completely baseless. The police said they are conducting a probe on the matter. The complainant is posted at the Colaba office by the Mantralaya, and she has been working with the IPS officer for over a year now.
In her statement, the woman has claimed that the officer asked her about her marital status and her family background a few days ago. He even called her on her mobile phone to speak to her. According to the woman, the officer called her to his cabin on Monday at 12 pm, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately.
Shocked by his actions, the woman went outside and told other staff members about it, who suggested that she go to the police and file a complaint. On Monday evening, she approached the Colaba police to file her complaint. However, the officers asked her to give a written complaint and her statement, and no FIR was registered.
Cops said they will check the Call Details Records (CDR) of both the clerk and the IPS officer, and have asked witnesses, if any, to call the police station for their statement. The senior officer, however, said the allegations against him are baseless.
He alleged that, recently, administrative action had been taken against the woman's friend, for which she was taking revenge. The IPS officer told mid-day, "I am a law-abiding citizen. I will give my statement to the police when they call me. I have complete faith in the law, which will bring out the truth."
