The Sessions Court at Kala Ghoda sentenced two men in two different cases for raping and molesting minor girls. In the first case, a 21-year-old received ten years' imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old niece last year.
He was charged under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Public prosecutor Sheela Jamdar said the medical report confirmed rape and the girl's statement in the metropolitan magistrate court played a crucial part in the case.
The survivor was staying with her maternal grandmother at Tatanagar, Govandi, while her parents resided in Shivaji Nagar, next to her paternal grandparents and their other son, the accused.
On July 19, 2013, when her mother came to pick her up, the survivor refused to go, saying her uncle had raped her eight days ago when she had come to stay there. The grandmother and child went to Shivaji Nagar police station and lodged the case, and the youth was arrested the same day.
Three girls molested
The Sessions Court also convicted a 40-year-old and handed out a three-year prison term for molesting three minor girls. On April 30, 2013, an eight-year-old girl told her mother that, two days ago, their neighbour held her in his kitchen and molested her.
She also said the man had done this to two of her nine-year-old friends. The child's mother confirmed this with the two girls and registered a case with the Tilak Nagar police under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and the POCSO Act.
