A biker was injured late last night when a BEST bus took a wrong turn near Kherwadi junction. According to police sources, the biker, identified as Parshuram Bakhale, sustained internal injuries on his leg, but his bike suffered heavy damages.
Speaking to mid-day, Bakhale said, "I was heading home from Andheri around 11.30 pm. I was riding along the left lane near the Kherwadi junction when the bus suddenly swerved left. It happened so fast that I couldn't pull the brakes on time. I fell down on the road and the rear end of the bus went over my bike. I wonder why nothing is done about lane cutting menace in this city."
Auto driver, Shamu Adhikari, who was nearby, witnessed the incident and rushed to help Bakhale. He said, "I was passing the Kherwadi junction when I noticed a man lying on the road, writhing as he held on to his leg. He was lucky to have fallen down before the bus dashed the bike, or he may have lost his leg in the incident. With the help of some other local residents, I stopped the bus, brought out the driver and alerted the cops."
Cops immediately reached the incident spot and detained the bus driver. A Kherwadi police officer said, "We have also seized the bus. The injured was taken to Bhabha hospital for treatment."
