The post-mortem of 38-year-old female elephant, Roopa, that died on Friday at Film City, Goregaon, has revealed that the animal was unfit, and should never have been put under the stress of travelling from Dahisar to Goregaon.
Dr Shailesh Pethe, veterinary officer, SGNP, said, "Prima facie, the cause of death seems to be multiple gall bladder failure and hepatic calculi (stones) which led to hepatic failure and toxemia." He added that tissue samples have been taken for further analysis.
The postmortem was conducted at Kora Kendra in Naigaon and the elephant was buried there as well. "Roopa was taken to Film City for a photography project, and the owner, Pawan Pande, had taken permission from us," said Sameer Inamdar, Round Forest Officer.
