Sapna Perreira, a woman in her early 50s, climbed her way up a hoarding tower near Byculla bridge yesterday, this time to arm-twist the police into taking action in an ongoing property dispute she is embroiled in. Perreira is a repeat offender and has pulled several similar stunts in the past, each designed to catch eyeballs and cameras. The drama started at 11 am, when she threatened to jump from her high perch.
The cops revealed that for the past six years, Perreira has allegedly been facing harassment over property from the Devendra family in her locality. Perreira and her teenaged daughter also paid a visit to the commissionerate office a couple of days ago, where, being denied an audience with top cop Rakesh Maria, she let loose a string of abuses against the commissioner and his force.
Perreira's daughter Sonu, who is a student of Std XII, said that she had accompanied her mother to the Juhu police station several times to seek their intervention in the property dispute, but no help had been extended to them.
Crowds gathered on the bridge as Perreira refused to climb down, even as her daughter desperately tried to negotiate with her. The drama continued for four hours, until fire brigade and local police officials managed to bring the woman down around 3 pm.
