The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Auth-ority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation's (MMRC) plan, to ask some political parties and government offices to temporarily vacate their premises in the barracks opposite Mantralaya in Nariman Point for the Metro, doesn't seem to have gone down well with at least one party.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP Leader Ajit Pawar rushed to the MMRDA headquarters in BKC on Monday evening to discuss the plan. mid-day had reported yesterday that Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, and a few government departments who have their offices in the barracks, will have to vacate them once the construction of Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line three begins, as they are in the way of the proposed underground Vidhan Bhavan station (Netas to move out to make way for Mumbai Metro III).
An MMRDA official told mid-day yesterday evening that Shiv Sena, NCP and a few government offices will have to be vacated and not the Congress office, as it does not come in the way of line three alignment. The exact date to vacate the offices has not been given as MMRDA is in talks with representatives of the political parties and government offices.

Sources from MMRDA said that an upset Pawar, along with his personal assistant, reached the MMRDA headquarters in BKC after 6.30 pm on Monday and had a long discussion with the Metropolitan Commissioner and other senior officials.
"He had a long discussion with the Metropolitan Commissioner on the issue of vacating the party office during the construction of underground metro line three. The MMRDA planners and engineers explained the station plan to him in detail," an official said.
Sources claimed that Pawar told MMRDA officials that NCP had spent a lot of money in the makeover of its office in the barracks recently and a good amount was also spent on making furniture and cabins.
On Monday evening, news channels had reported that MMRC had issued notices to some political parties which had their offices in the barracks and they will have to vacate the premises temporarily during the construction of underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line three as the Vidhan Bhavan station is coming up near the barracks area. "There are chances that Ajit Pawar heard the news and immediately rushed to the MMRDA office," a source said.
