The death of a premature baby led to the kin damaging hospital property at civic-run Bhabha hospital in Bandra on Sunday evening.
Speaking to midday, Dr P Jadhav, medical superintendent of the hospital said, "The baby boy who was born on July 26 and was a premature baby. He weighed only 1250 grams. Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated after being given a discharge and had to be admitted again after being diagnosed with gastro."
"Despite our best efforts, he succumbed to the disease," he added.
He further added that they had already explained the baby's condition and the situation to the family but were unable to deal with the infant's death and around 15 relatives barged into the hospital after the bad news was broken to them.
"After an hour of declaring the baby's death, at around 5pm, a mob of around ten to fifteen people barged into the hospital and started creating a scene. They broke a phone and a CCTV camera as well. Luckily,none of the staff was hurt and no major damage happened to any of the hospital's property. The situation is now under control and the police is doing the needful. We have filed a complaint against the mob."
The deceased baby was the child of Reshma and Sarfaraz Sheikh who are residents of Bandra (east).
