According to police officials from Khar police station, the incident took place outside office of a builder at 16th road Khar west at 10.45 am. The constable, Dilip Dhanavde, was on his duty as security for the builder. Another constable Pankaj Jadhav attached with the Khar police was present at the spot. After finishing his duty Dhanavde was leaving home, when he was adjusting his 9mm pistol.

Dhanavde took pistol in his hands and tried to keep it inside when he accidentally fired a shot. The bullet from the pistol hit the right leg of Jadhav standing outside. Panicked, Dhanavde kept his pistol inside and, with the help of others, Jadhav was rushed to Lilavati hospital in Bandra, where he is currently recuperating. Dhanavde was taken to Khar police station for his statement.

The cops have not registered any case against the negligent cop. A police officer from another police station said, "The case is serious; it could have taken someone's life. A case should have been filed against Dhanavde and he should be dismissed. Only inquiry and departmental action is not enough."
