On Saturday, the survivor recounted her ordeal to one of her neighbours, who then caught the man red-handed. It was the girl's mother who lodged an FIR against her husband after she was informed about his heinous act. In her complaint, the girl's mother informed the Kurar police that her husband was a driver but had lost his job two years ago.

The girl told the police that she confided in her neighbour, who was about her own age, after she could not take it any longer. The neighbour then informed her parents about the atrocity the survivor was subjected to. The survivor told the cops that initially the neighbours refused to believe her, but decided to help after a lot of convincing.

They caught her stepfather as he was trying to force himself on her and handed him over to the police. The neighbours then informed the girl's mother, the sole breadwinner in the family, about her husband's nefarious activities following which she visited the Kurar police station and lodged an FIR against him.

The survivor also told the police that her stepfather had threatened to kill her and her mother if she told anyone about his activities. The man was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. He was produced in the court yesterday and was remanded in police custody.

School van case
Meanwhile, the school van attendant Arvind Gajraal Dubey (19) alias Rohit was also booked under the IPC and POCSO Act, after the survivor identified him in the presence of police and a counsellor on Saturday.
