Mumbai: Man held for driving car with 'Govt of India' logo

Officials from Vile Parle police station arrested a driver, identified as Kohli, on Saturday afternoon for driving a car bearing a ‘Govt of India' logo without requisite permission. While the police refused to divulge details of the car owner and said further investigation was underway, sources claimed the vehicle belonged to a high-ranking Customs officer.

Kohli was nabbed during a nakabandi on the Western Express Highway.

The officials took him into custody when he failed to provide appropriate answers to their queries pertaining to the car's number plate (CH 01 AN 9040), presence of a red beacon inside it or the ‘Govt of India' logo embossed on the vehicle's front and rear in red.

Kohli was booked under sections 170 (personating public servant), 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.

The accused was produced in the court and was remanded in police custody till today. Senior PI Raksha Maharao from Vile Parle police station said, "We have registered a case, but can't comment much because the investigation is still on."
