Fire at Shastri Nagar slums behind Bandra station disrupts train services on Western Railway. Firemen bring fire under control, no casualties reported in the incident
A major fire broke out near Platform number 1 of Bandra railway station on Saturday evening. Fire officials said that the fire started at 8.30 pm in Shastri nagar slums which is very close to the platform.
As a result platform number 1 was closed, as the fire had started near the Chruchgate end of the platform. Fourteen fire engines were dispatched to the spot.
Western railway's train services were affected as local train services from platform number one were disrupted from 8.30 pm. Railway officials informed that services from platform number 1 resumed at 10.47 pm after the fire was brought into control. In the mean time, services of platform number 1 and 2 were diverted to 3 and 4, they added.
When contacted, Prabhat Rahandale, Deputy Chief Fire officer, said, "Eight fire engine and six water tankers were dispatched o the spot. The fire has been brought under control, while the cause of the fire is unknown.We are investigating the matter further."
Fire officials further revealed that the fire broke our in a 300'300 sq metre of slum area housing 2-3 storeys of shanties. Three ambulances were also been rushed to the spot, however no casualties were reported in the entire incident.
