The foul smell spread in the area and some people complained of eye irritation and nausea, RDMC chief Santosh Kadam said. Some people, like this girl (above right), had to be treated after inhaling the chemical.

The liquid ammonia bulk carrier overturned and fell in a nullah near Mumbra toll plaza close to the bypass at 2.45 am. The disaster control and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot.
They took the help of personnel from a fertiliser unit in Taloja to stop the gas leakage, he said. Those residing in the nearby areas were shifted to safer places as a precautionary measure, Kadam added.
