Congress leaders from Mumbai have written to the municipal commissioner to take action against a private company's contractors for digging up trenches for erection of 4G towers.

On Tuesday, Congress corporator Devendra Amberkar issued a statement alleging that the company had dug up trenches haphazardly on city roads. The BMC has given permission to the company to erect 1160 4G towers in August 2014 following which the construction of towers had started.

"According to the terms and conditions, they were expected to use micro tunneling for laying cables. But that rule has been shown the door and trenches have been dug up in several parts of the city. Besides, the permission of traffic police has not been taken in many places. Motorists, pedestrians are suffering a lot due to the open trenches. Several minor accidents have happened," his statement reads.
