While the accused, identified as Anmol Gupta, an engineering student who stays in Vile Parle, was arrested and later released on bail, the injured were rushed to Bhabha hospital.
While three of the toll booth workers - Ramchandra Parab (24), Dnyaneshwar Bidaye (29), Niraj Pawar (23) - were discharged as they had suffered minor injuries, one - Ramdas Patil (27) - was sent to Lilavati Hospital for serious injuries to the head and the forearms, and a blood clot in an eye.
On the same night, Parab filed a complaint against Gupta under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC, and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act at the Bandra police station.
"The accused, Gupta, was driving the car on a learner's licence. When his car came close to the toll plaza, he tried to slam the brakes. He said that since he was inexperienced and unable to completely control the car, it hit booth number 12 at the north end of the sea link. He was arrested but was later released on bail," said Anant Rao, sub-inspector, Bandra police station.
The booth workers said the accident could have been fatal if the car had been speeding, but speed breakers and ramblers prevented that from happening.
