Mumbai: Angry villagers set BMW ablaze after accident that killed two

Angered by an accident in which two people were killed, villagers at Virar West set fire to a BMW which rammed into the Activa they were riding, on Friday. The villagers also beat up the driver of the BMW.

Police said the BMW was speeding and the driver lost control causing the accident. The driver was identified as Murgan Chouge (23), a resident of Virar and an engineering student. The victims were identified as Nazreth Kunda and Sangita John. Police said John was riding the Activa and she had given a lift to Kunda.


The Activa broke when the BMW hit it.

According to the police the incident occurred on Friday at 7.30 pm at Agaasi road at Virar West. They said the Activa broke into three pieces after being hit by the BMW. John died on the spot and Kunda died in hospital the same day.

Arnala police registered an accidental death report earlier and arrested the accused under sections 304, 337, 338 of the IPC and rash driving. Police found the accused was not under the influence of alcohol.
