A 12-year-old boy, who was hit by a cargo train while he was searching for his cricket ball on the tracks in Ghatkopar on May 23, died yesterday evening at Rajawadi Hospital. mid-day had reported on May 27 that he had slipped into coma the day he was injured.
The boy, identified as Sahil Jadhav, hailed from Pune and was visiting his grandparents in Ghatkopar during summer vacations. It was Sahil's fellow player who had hit the ball near the tracks and Sahil had volunteered to go fetch it.
When he didn't return for over 15 minutes, the kids he was playing with informed building residents, who found Sahil lying unconscious near the tracks.

Sahil Jadhav, a Std VI student, had moved to Pune with his six-year-old brother and parents two years ago, since then he used to visit his grand parents each year during summer vacations. Sahil's father Arvind Jadhav said, "He loved playing so much that most of the time he was out of the house playing some or the other game. He always said he wanted to become a sportsman."
Sahil had sustained severe head injuries. Mohan Pawar, neighbour of Sahil's grandfather, said, "The hospital authorities told us about his demise at 4 pm. He was on ventilator and the doctors had informed us that his chances of survival were very slim. The family will conduct his last rites in Ghatkopar Shamshan Bhumi on Monday."
