An after-wedding party in Nalasopara on Sunday night turned into a bloodbath, after two groups attacked each other over alleged "dirty dancing". The incident claimed one and landed two in hospital with serious injuries. The Tulinj police have detained three people in connection with the attack.

Late on Sunday, a 25-year-old resident of Mori village threw a party for his friends and relatives. Around midnight, a scuffle broke out between two groups over some dance moves. "Eyewitnesses said one group questioned the other for employing 'inappropriate steps and gestures' while dancing, which soon turned into a violent fight," said an officer. "Both groups attacked each other with choppers, grievously injuring three people."

The injured were taken to Alliance Hospital, where Vinay Dichwalkar, 21, succumbed to his injuries. Of the other two, one was shifted to Nair hospital as his condition was critical.

Another officer from Tulinj said, "We are questioning those who were present at the party. We will also check if anyone took a video of the entire proceedings."
