Missing five-year-old girl's body found in Navi Mumbai creek

The body of the five-year-old girl who went missing along with her 35-year-old father, from their Wadala home, was found floating at a creek near Nhava-Sheva in Navi Mumbai. Her father is still to be traced.

On Monday, mid-day reported the duo missing from Wadala. Ashad Irshad Khan went missing on July 21, along with his daughter Minal. Ashad, a medical representative with a private firm in Mumbai, on Thursday evening texted his wife Shaziya, saying that he had killed Minal and was going to commit suicide. He also sent a suicide note on WhatsApp to all his contacts, informing them that he, along with his daughter, was committing suicide because of harassment from his wife.

A missing complaint was registered on Thursday night with Wadala police station. Police officials traced his mobile phone to Khandala and, later in the evening, to the Vashi old bridge, where they also found his motorcycle, along with his helmet and key.

On Sunday, at around 3.30 pm, Nhava-gaon beat officers with Nhava-Sheva police station received a call from a citizen, that a body was found at the creek. "We visited the spot and found that it was a five-year-old girl. The body had decomposed and was suspected to be two days old. We suspect she died due to drowning. We took the body to Vashi Civic Hospital. We informed the control rooms, as well as police stations across Navi Mumbai, Thane and Mumbai to check if any missing case was registered about the girl," said Bapurao Gawde, assistant police inspector, Nhava-Sheva police station.

On Monday, the Wadala police contacted the Nhava-Sheva police informing them about the missing case. "After that we sent them the pictures of the girl on their WhatsApp messenger. They showed them to the relatives, who confirmed it was her, and approached us on Monday afternoon. Seeing the dress and other belongings, the mother of the girl and her uncle, and their friends confirmed her identity," added Gawde.

Azam Khan, the brother of Ashad, said they received the dead body and are saddened that his brother took the step of killing his daughter. Police are still trying to trace Ashad.
