Taking cognizance of a complaint filed by a city-based dentist, the Dental Council of India (DCI) finally sent a letter to the Maharashtra State Dental Council (MSDC) to take action against Dr Swapnil Bumb from Pune for unethically advertising on a social networking site, offering tutorials to students.u00a0u00a0
The letter was sent by DCI to MSDC after Dr Vivekanand Rege filed a complaint against Dr Bumb with the Mumbai police, DCI and MSDC for unethical advertisement and maligning Dr Rege's name.
The letter sent by Dr SK Ojha, secretary of DCI (copy available with MiD DAY) states that since the matter comes under the purview of MSDC, Mumbai, Dr Rege is requested to follow up the case with the MSDC.
Reacting to the letter, Dr Rege, said, "I am relieved that DCI has taken the issue seriously and it has sent the letter to MSDC requesting it to take stern action against the wrongdoings."
The issue came to light when Dr Rege, an ex-professor of the Government Dental College, filed a police complaint with the MRA Marg police and cyber police against Dr Bumb for unethical advertisements and also a defamation case against him for assassinating his character on Facebook ('Dentist sues counterpart over FB ad', January 17). Dr Sharad Kokate, vice-president of MSDC, remained unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts to contact him.
