A security guard helped the police nab a man who had murdered his cousin at Mazgaon last night. The police are now planning to felicitate the guard, Sadiq Khan.
The murder
Thakur Dayal Rajbhar (40) was murdered by his cousin Ajay Rajbhar (39) at Mazgaon last night after both had had a few drinks at a desi liquor shop near Dockyard station. After the drinking session, while they were both walking near Love Lane, they got into a heated argument. During the fight, Dayal bit Ajay's finger. Ajay then pushed Dayal down and smashed his head with a huge stone lying nearby. The murder took place at a building construction site, where, after committing the murder, Ajay hid behind a tree.
Khan, who was doing the rounds of the area, saw Dayal's body. When he looked around, he spotted Ajay hiding behind a tree. He immediately caught him and took him to the police. Khan said, "This spot is usually frequented by couples. When I was looking around after I spotted the body, I thought there was a couple hiding behind the tree. When I found a man hiding there, I knew he must be the killer and took him to the police station."
DCP Zone 3 Pravin Padwal told mid-day, "This murder seems to have been planned as the accused seemed to be less drunk that the deceased."
An officer from Byculla police station said, "A preliminary inquiry shows it could be a farm dispute, but the motive will be clear only after a thorough interrogation of the accused."
Senior inspector from Byculla police station Avinash Shingte said, "We arrested the accused with the help of a security guard and have registered a case under section 302 of IPC. We appreciate the work of security guard Sadiq Khan who nabbed the accused. We are planning to give him some reward for his bravery."
