Police have arrested a motor mechanic who stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the stomach for stepping on his foot while alighting from a BEST bus on Tuesday afternoon. Police said that after the victim got off at the bus stop in Teli Galli, Andheri (E), an argument ensued between the two and in a fit of rage, the accused pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the teen in the stomach and chest several times.
The victim was identified as Sushil Nihal Morya, a Std XI student, who had boarded bus number 195 from his residence at Prem Nagar, Saki-Vihar Road and was on his way to his college in Andheri (E), when the incident occurred.
According to the police, when the bus reached the bus stop Morya accidentally stepped on the foot of Dinesh Soni (20), while getting down. Andheri police officials said that an angry Soni started abusing Morya and began scolding him. Morya apologised and even clarified that it was a mistake, but Soni continued to reprimand him.
"The two were quarrelling when Soni removed a knife from his pocket and in a fit of rage attacked Morya. Soni stabbed the victim on his stomach and chest thrice in front of other commuters who were waiting at the bus stop," said Prakash Wadkar ACP Andheri division.
Bystanders nabbed Soni, who is a mechanic by profession and resides in a slum in Ram Nagar near the Western Expressway at Vakola, Santacruz (E), after he was trying to flee from the spot. They called the police control room, and within minutes the cops arrived at the scene and arrested Soni and seized the weapon. Morya was rushed to Cooper hospital and is out of danger.
