On Saturday morning, the Santacruz police found a body inside a white Honda Civic parked at Sarojini Road in Santacruz West. The victim was found seated on the rear seat, strangled with the seat belt.
The police are on the lookout for a bar girl called Mannat, who works at a high profile bar in Santacruz, and was said to have an extra-marital relationship with the victim, Sarfaraz Khan.u00a0
The incident came to light when the control room received a call at 10 am informing them about an unclaimed Honda Civic (MH 02 BD 1067) parked in a lane on Sarojini Road for the last two days.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, KMM Prasanna, said, "When our team reached the site, we found a body in a decompsed state. We are verifying the identity of the deceased."
So far, the police have managed to recover the victim's phone and a few documents, thus making it possible contact his relatives. Khan was a resident of God Gift Tower in Versova.
Relatives, including Khan's wife, Rana Khan, were in a state of shock. On Friday, Rana had filed a missing complaint at the Versova police station. Her husband has been missing since January 19, she said.
John alias Ashraf, a close friend of Khan's was also interrogated. Sources say he was aware of Khan's activities, and might be able to shed light on the incident.
Hasan, a relative of the deceased, accused the bar girl of plotting the murder. "Mannat was in a relationship with Sarfaraz. She is behind the murder," he said.
Based on the allegations, the police visited Mannat's Versova residence, but didn't find her at home. They headed to the airport based on a tip-off, and have detained her. Apart from Mannat, another suspect (known as Baabla) has also been detained, and is being cited as the main conspirator in the case.
