Man held for firing gun, trying to forcefully enter RBI HQ in Mumbai

A Kerallite who tried to forcefully enter the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) building in Mumbai on Tuesday after firing shots into the air has been arrested


A man armed with a two-barrel air gun tried to enter the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Headquarters in south Mumbai's Fort area on Tuesday afternoon and was overpowered by security personnel.

The man, in his late 30's has been identified as Padmagiri Raj Shekar hails from Kerala. He was threatening to kill anybody who came in his way to enter the RBI. But the security guards at the India's Central Bank overpowered him during which he fired his air gun in the air.

Nobody was, however, injured in the firing.

"He was shouting that if somebody comes in his way he will kill him. But the security guards of RBI G N Pharande and Bharat Wagh stopped him and with the help of other security guards nabbed Shekar who upon being intercepted fired one round in the air from his air gun," said a police officer from MRA Marg police station in whose jurisdiction the RBI falls.

Various security agencies came to interrogate the man to ascertain his motive behind the act.

Along with the RBI there are various sensitive buildings in Fort area like the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Naval Buildings, High Court and Bombay University. u00a0
