Thane: Maharashtra State Road and Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will hold 'Jagruti Saptah' (awareness week) from August 9-17 across the state to reach out to passengers in order to provide them best of facilities.
Jaiprakash Chajjed, president, Maharashtra ST Workers Congress told a media conference here today that during the week staffers will interact with passengers and apprise them about their role in the corporation and also discuss ways and means to provide better services.
Raising concerns of employees, he said despite several representations and agitations by unions, workers were paid less salary and about 1.25 lakh employees are deprived of various social security benefits like medical insurance. He demanded that the corporation employees should be paid wages as per the Seventh Pay Commission.
Chajjed on the occasion claimed that there have been suicides committed by MSRTC workers and it mostly went unnoticed.
"Soon we will be meeting State chief minister and the transport minister with our renewed demands," he said.
