Elphinstone flyover
Finally, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) seems to have taken a serious note of the Government Resolution (GR) issued in 2009 by the Urban Development department that called for a ban on illegal parking lots below flyovers throughout the state.

The MSRDC has now cleared off the area below Elphinstone flyover and covered it with tin sheets. Security guards have also been posted to avoid encroachments.
Earlier, vehicles were parked illegally below many MSRDC flyovers in the city. The space below the Elphinstone flyover was the worst affected as private tourist buses were using the space.
An MSRDC official told sunday mid-day on condition of anonymity, "More than a year ago, we had even published a notice in daily newspapers stating illegally parked vehicles would be towed away if they were parked under MSRDC flyovers. But the practice continued. Some people, too, had encroached the space below the flyovers.
To curtail this menace, we have covered the space below the Elphinstone flyover with tin sheets and private security guards have been posted. People staying illegally below the flyover have been asked to vacate the place. We started this exercise last week and completed it on Friday."
The decision to remove encroachments comes on the heels of the 2012 Bombay High Court order that had banned parking lots under flyovers, citing security reasons.
