Bin Roye will release on Friday all over India, but not in Maharashtra; the distribution firm allegedly received threats from MNS saying “action would be taken against them” if they released it
Pakistani film Bin Roye, which is slated for a country-wide release in India this Friday, will not be released in Maharashtra following threats from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to the film's distribution company. The motion picture, starring Pakistani actors Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed, is set to release all over India this Friday.
Its distributor, B4U Broadband India, received a call from the MNS saying they could not release the film in the state. A source from the company said, under condition of anonymity, "Our company got a call from MNS yesterday saying we cannot release the film in Maharashtra.
They threatened us that some action will be taken against us if we do so. In fact, we were asked to not even hold a press show for critics. So, the company decided to cancel the show for critics that was to be held on Wednesday, and also took the decision that they shall not release the film in Maharashtra."
Confirming the development, the cine wing of the MNS said that since Indian films are not welcome in Pakistan, one should not give a "red carpet" welcome to Pakistani films. Ameya Khopkar, president of the MNS Cine Workers Association, said, "We had informed B4U that they cannot release a Pakistani movie because in Pakistan, our movies are banned and our actors mistreated. Pakistan is also a big hub for piracy.
Hence, we shouldn't extend a red carpet welcome to Pakistani movies. We warned them that if they release the movie, whatever follows will be B4U's responsibility." Khopkar said he had received a letter from B4U (mid-day has a copy) confirming that they will not release the film in Maharashtra.
The letter also states that the MNS has no objection to the film releasing elsewhere in India. Incidentally, the lead actress of this film, Mahira Khan, will soon make her debut in Raees, which stars Shah Rukh Khan.
