A leopard strayed its way into a house at Varlipada tribal hamlet, adjacent to the Shree Nagar area, in Thane West on late Friday night.
Confirming the incident, a forest department official said, "At around 9 pm on Friday a leopard came to the Varlipada tribal hamlet, which is close to the boundary of SGNP, with an intention to catch a hen, when people suddenly saw the leopard and tried to drive it away. In this ensuing commotion, the animal ended up entering a house, which we immediately got vacated."
The SGNP rescue team and the Thane rescue team then reached the spot along with the fire brigade officials, but the rescue operations were hampered in a big way as over 500 people had gathered to watch the drama.
The SGNP rescue team was not able to tranquilise the animal even after 5 hours, as it had hid beneath the bed. Finally, at around 3:40 am, the forest department officials managed to open the backside tin of the house, after which the leopard ran away into the bushes.
