Appearing in the Supreme Court, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur agreed to settle their disputes, which could help them file a fresh mutual consent divorce case

In what could be seen as a respite in the long drawn divorce of actor Karisma Kapoor and her estranged husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur, the Supreme Court yesterday asked the advocates of the couple if the parties are ready to settle the matter between them. To this, lawyers replied in the affirmative.

The couple had earlier withdrawn the divorce petition on the grounds of mutual consent. At the time, Karisma had alleged that Sunjay had failed to comply with the financial commitments mentioned in the consent terms

Speaking to mid-day, Karisma's lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said, "The court asked if the parties can settle the matter. I said, yes there had been a settlement already, but they (Sunjay) backed out. They (Sunjay's lawyers) said they are still willing to settle. The court then called us in the chamber and said let's try and settle the matter."

He added, "The Supreme Court suggested the settlement and is monitoring it. Both the parties are in agreement."

If the couple agrees to a settlement, their other disputes like the domestic violence case and custody of their children will also be settled. They can also file a divorce petition on the grounds of mutual consent once again.

Jethmalani said on their next court date, March 8, at the Supreme Court, they would "report the court about the settlement."

mid-day tried contacting Sunjay's lawyer Aman Hingorani, but he declined to comment.

Threat to Sunjay
Sunjay's lawyers Aman Hingorani and Priya Hingorani had filed an application in the SC, seeking to transfer the case to Delhi since underworld don Ravi Pujari has threatened to kill him.

Sunjay's lawyers yesterday informed the court that Delhi police has confirmed the threat and the Gurgoan police has also registered a case.
