The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) continues with its action on eateries violating fire safety norms, and has sealed 12 for serious negligence, including Ambience, Blue Waters, Cafe Haqq Se and Oye Kake. The BMC had formed 52 teams and inspected 795 eateries. They found violations in 438 eateries and demolished illegal extensions or alterations in 138 of them.

The civic staff has served inspection reports to the 438 eateries to correct the shortcomings they have, within a stipulated time period given to them. According to a senior officer from G-south ward (Worli, Mahalaxmi), "Famous eating joints Ambience, Blue Waters, Haqq Se and Oye Kake have been sealed after inspection officers found tandoors being used without permissions and absence of other licences. They have been booked under section 8 of the Fire Safety Act."

The TAP Restobar and Bonobo in Bandra West were also sealed after it was found that they ran illegal rooftop terrace restaurants. The BMC has sealed three joints in H-west (Bandra West), four in M-west (Chembur), and one each in B ward (Dongri, JJ Hospital) and N ward (Ghatkopar) after finding serious negligence regarding fire safety.

The action comes after 14 people died in Kamala Mills compound after a fire broke out in Mojo's Bistro and 1 Above early on December 29. A senior BMC official said, "Action will continue against the eateries. After the stipulated time ends, the fire brigade and health department will check whether issues raised in inspection reports have been complied with."
