In a daylight train robbery, a gang of three robbed a jeweller, Chandan Revankar, of gold ornaments weighing three kilogram and made away with the loot by jumping off the moving train.

The incident occurred yesterday evening in Konkan Kanya Express near Panvel. The railway cops are now trying to trace the accused through the fake identity cards, showing them as CBI officers, that fell from their pockets during the loot.

In his complaint, Revankar said he had purchased the ornaments from Karvar, Karnataka, and took the train for Mumbai from Madgaon, Goa. He claimed the ornaments were to be kept for sale at his Zaveri Bazaar shop. When the train slowed near Panvel, the dacoits approached him and told him that they were CBI officers.

They then asked him to show his luggage. Unaware of their ulterior motive, the jeweller showed them his belongings. The moment one of them managed to locate the jewellery bag, the trio attacked Revankar, snatched the bag and jumped off the moving train.

The victim even claimed that none of the fellow passengers rushed to his aid when the robbers attacked him. Revankar even alleged a nexus between the robbers and the on-duty GRP personnel, claiming that the officer was not present in the train when the robbery occurred around 4.15 pm.

"The jeweller lodged a complaint with the GRP around 6 pm, after the train reached CST. The case has been transferred to the Panvel GRP and they are on the verge of solving it. The only clue the robbers had left behind were the fake identity cards," said a senior GRP officer.
