This year appears to be a season of deja vu for candidates appearing for the JEE (Advanced).

Preeya Shah, who grabbed the headlines in April after topping the JEE (Main), is once again the state topper with an All India Rank (AIR) of 16. Similarly, Dimple Kochar, who topped JEE (Main) in the girls' category, has repeated the feat with an AIR of 295.

While Ameya Bansal from Jaipur topped the merit list by scoring 372, others who made their mark include Duggani Jeevithiesh from Vijaywada (OBC category), Chinmay Awale from Navi Mumbai (SC category), Chaitanya Naik from Andhra Pradesh (ST category) and Hari Prasad K from Guntur (physically disabled category).

Soon after the JEE (Advanced) results were announced last morning, it came to the fore that 36,566 candidates of the 1.47 lakh applicants had cleared the test held on May 22.

These eligible candidates will now compete for 10,575 seats at premier IITs across India.

Website glitch
Even though the results were declared in the morning, several candidates complained about the inaccessibility of the website due to heavy traffic. For the toppers, it was their respective coaching institutes that secured their marks and ranks from the JEE office at IIT-B (Powai). However, most of the students remained clueless about their scores and ranks until evening.

"The server crashed in the afternoon and remained so until evening," said Pooja Shah, one of the candidates.

Toppers speak

Preeya Shah
My aim was to secure admission to IIT-Bombay to pursue computer engineering not just because it is in Mumbai, but also because it will offer me the best academic exposure without compromising on the extra-curricular activities. IIT-B has always been the first choice for all the toppers. I know that the competition will be fierce and it is necessary not to get bogged down by it or else it will adversely affect our performance during interviews.

Dimple Kochar
None of this would have ever been possible without my elder brother's help. He recently graduated from the IIT-B. It was he who showed me how to overcome anxiety and use it in a constructive manner. I'll be applying for computer engineering.

Chinmay Awale
It was through news websites that I learnt about me topping the SC category. We are still trying to find out my marks and rank. Giving up on animation and painting for two years had left me saddened. I can now pursue computer engineering and my hobbies.
