There was a change in J Dey's behaviour a few days before he was shot, revealed the mid-day investigation editor's wife Shubha Sharma on Monday at court, when appearing for a deposition before it.

Crux of the case
Sharma was first cross-examined by special public prosecutor Pradip Gharat for around half-an-hour, recalling the events that led up to his shocking demise. She was then examined by prime accused Chhota Rajan's advocate, Anshuman Sinha, during which she said Dey never discussed his work with her and kept the two lives separate.
In her statement, which was also recorded, she told the court that Dey left for work daily at 12-12.30 pm. Before that, he would visit his mother, return home for lunch together, and then leave for office. "Both of us had our weekly off on Saturday," Sharma said.

She recalled that as a senior investigative journalist, he had gone to London and Paris between April 28, 2011 and May 25, 2011. "On May 30, it was my mother's birthday and we all had gone to Gorai Beach to celebrate. At that time, I noticed that he was slightly tense," she said.
What happened that day?
Sharma then went on to retrace June 11, 2011 - the day he was shot dead - in its entirety.
"In the morning, my husband left for his mother's house. He was supposed to come for lunch as was the routine, but he didn't. I was waiting for him, but didn't do anything at the time. Then one of my friends called me asking about his whereabouts, to which I told him that I am expecting my husband any moment now. After sometime, that friend called me again and told me that Dey had been shot and had been admitted to a hospital. I rushed to the hospital, and on my way there, saw the police at the spot. At the hospital, I was asked to wait for a bit and then allowed to see him. However, by the time I got there, he was not alive. I later claimed his body."
