The Manikpur police recovered the body of a 26-year-old man inside a Maruti Swift car in Vasai on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. After the body was discovered, one of the informers accompanying the cops took a sip of water from a bottle in the vehicle and collapsed. He was rushed to Golden Nest Hospital on Mira-Bhayendar Road.

Some of the cops who splashed water on their faces from the same bottle sustained an infection. Doctors detected poison mixed in the water. While the cops were discharged, the informer, Gautam Chakraborty, died on Friday. The deceased, found in the car, was identified as Vishal Vasaikar, a car dealer in Vasai.
"Both died after drinking the poisoned water. We received a tip-off on Monday night about Vasaikar. While Gautam's death was an accident, we are investigating the murder of Vasaikar. A punchnama has been lodged," Police inspector Valmik Ahire, Manikpur police station, said.
