Thane: A history-sheeter was allegedly murdered in the wee hours today near here by three persons, who were later arrested, police said.
The victim, 25-year-old Monu Tapal, who had a number of cases registered against him, was murdered at the base of the Mama Banja hills in Thane west around 2.30 am, Senior Police Inspector R J Kakade of Srinagar police station said.
Within hours of the crime, three persons identified as Rakesh Purekar (33), Viru Singh (28) and Santosh Jaiswal (31) were arrested from Wagle Estate locality, he added. Based on the complaint lodged by the victim's father, police registered an offence against the trio.
According to police, Monu had been bullying Rajesh and demanding money from him for the past few days. Annoyed at it, Rajesh told about it to Viru and Santosh, who hatched a plan to eliminate Monu and stoned him to death in the early hours today.
Monu had at least half a dozen cases registered against him, including that of extortion, police said. Srinagar police said that they had filed an offence against Monu yesterday for allegedly trying to extort money from an industrial unit in Hanuman Nagar here.
