1) While probing a house burglary in Kandivli recently, cops came across CCTV footage in which they recognised Abdul Anis Shaikh (27) because of his criminal record. Later, upon receiving a tip-off about Shaikh, sub-inspectors Pradeep Kerkar, Bhushan Thoke and 10 other cops reached the Kherwadi pipeline early Tuesday morning and surrounded his home
2) Shaikh resided on the second floor of the house, which was at a height of 20 to 25 feet from the ground. On one side of the house was a big nullah (open gutter) and on the other there was a pipeline. Few of the cops knocked on
the door, while Thoke stood in the balcony behind
3) Suddenly, the window opened and Shaikh jumped and fell in the nullah. Thoke saw this and immediately jumped from the balcony into the open gutter and caught hold the accused
4) A scuffle broke out between Shaikh and Thoke. Shaikh tried to escape from the cop's grasp and in the process, assaulted him. However, he could not get himself out of Thoke's hold. The PSI sustained minor injuries during the skirmish
5) Thoke held Shaikh till the other cops got to the nullah, after which he was arrested. A police officer said, "(Shaikh) is a habitual housebreaker with many robbery cases registered against him from Dahisar to Bandra. He was involved in more than five housebreaking cases recently in Kandivli. We have produced him before the court and he has been remanded in a three-day police custody," said an officer from Kandivli police station
