The first day of August brought good news for Mumbaikars.
Another of the seven lakes supplying water to the city, Vihar, started overflowing on Monday morning.
This is the second lake to overflow this season, the first one being Tulsi.
mid-day had reported on Monday that Vihar stood at a level of 79.34 m, close to its maximum drawable level of 80.12 m. Around 4.20 am Monday, the lake started overflowing. It rose about 2 inches higher and crossed the maximum mark.
"This is the second lake to overflow," said Ramesh Bambale, deputy municipal commissioner (Hydraulics).
Meanwhile, rainfall relented a little in Mumbai on Monday. Between 8 am and 6 pm, the city got an average of 18 mm rainfall, the eastern suburbs 31 mm, and the Western suburbs 23 mm.
