The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs seized over two kilos of gold worth Rs 55 lakh at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai over the last 48 hours.
On the basis of specific information, a passenger named Danish Ahmad Adlakhya who arrived in Mumbai by IndiGo airline 6E-64 (which departs from Dubai at around 11.30 am and reaches Mumbai at around 4 pm), was intercepted and 1.5 kilogram of gold valued at Rs.39 lakh was recovered.
In the second incident, the AIU's batch C caught 3 gold bars weighing 699 grams at Rs.16, 95,424 from Gulshan H Mukadam who was returning from Dubai to Delhi by Spice Jet SG 12 on Tuesday and subsequently from Delhi to Mumbai by Spice Jet SG 153 on April 1. Mukadam, who had cleverly concealed the gold in her hair band, was nabbed at the domestic airport.
In another incident, passenger Kazi Mushtaq Abdul Wahab was intercepted before flying off to Dubai via Jet Airways 9W 538 (which departs T2, Mumbai around 3.30 pm and reaches Dubai at around 5 pm). On examining his check-in baggage, Rs.51 lakh Indian currency in denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 hidden inside tamarind and kokam bags was recovered.
