KDMC has asked housing societies (above 2,000 sq m) to sell dry waste to the scrap dealer, and compost the wet garbage in their premises
After the Bombay High Court restrained the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from issuing Intimation for Disapproval (IOD) and Commencement Certificates (CC) for new construction till it comes out with a decision on solid waste management, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has now come out with a rule to prevent overloading the dumping ground in Adharwadi, Kalyan - any new housing society above 2,000 square metres will have to dispose off its garbage within its own premises.

According to a senior officer from KDMC, the dumping ground in Kalyan is almost full, and new residents will have to think of a way to dump their garbage.
A division bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday had stayed new construction, because the state government and BMC have failed to comply with the Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) rules at the Deonar and Mulund dumping grounds, which are working beyond their capacity.
KDMC says
G Navangul, executive engineer, KDMC, confirmed that the Corporation has come up with this idea. "Housing societies above 2,000 square metres will have to get rid of their garbage on their own. They can give the dry waste to the scrap dealer, and will have to compost the wet garbage," he said.
According to sources, the corporation will also come up with biogas plants that will be built at various locations to tackle the wet garbage issue.
