Last night the CBI arrested Vijay Singla, the nephew of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, in Chandigarh, on bribery charges. His arrest was followed by that of Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar in Mumbai. Kumar was made a Railway Board member only on Thursday. Prior to that, he was the GM, Western Railway.
He was accused of paying Singla Rs 90 lakh for a promotion. The money was caught in Chandigarh, which led to a spate of raids in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bangalore and the subsequent arrests.
A case has been registered against Kumar and two others, Sandip Goel and Manjunath. Kumar has a Guinness World Record in his name for commissioning the world's âLargest Route Relay Interlocking' at Old Delhi Railway Station in the shortest possible time of 36 hours and he is the only officer from the Indian Railways to have achieved this.u00a0
