First 300kmph recharge Intercity Electric bus arrives in Mumbai

The Mumbai Central bus depot will soon be converted into a 49 storey building complex that can be leased out to government bodies and undertakings

The first hi-power electric intercity bus that will run between Dadar and Pune with the brand name 'Shivaee' arrived in Mumbai on Thursday. Around 150 such e-buses will connect various cities across Maharashtra and will be operated by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The 12-metre long buses have a capacity of 300 km per recharge. Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote said, "These buses will be a boon to the MSRTC Undertaking as they will not only save the fuel cost but also change the face of the undertaking."

In addition to this, Raote, along with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated a host of amenities for the undertaking. The Mumbai Central bus depot will soon be converted into a 49 storey building complex that can be leased out to government bodies and undertakings. "The first 14 floors will be used as the MSRTC headquarters and the floors above it will be given out on lease with a targeted revenue of R 16.17 crore per month," Raote said.

Raote also felicitated the driver and conductor of the bus that caught fire earlier this month. The State transport minister also said that a staffers complex would be set up at Vidyavihar, including a school. The quarters will have two 12-storey buildings with 118 apartments.
