Following a complaint registered by a 25-year-old woman, the Navghar police in Bhayander East have registered a case against an unknown person for allegedly creating a fake Facebook (FB) account of the complainant and uploading her family photos with MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar with a status that said that she is engaged to Nandgaonkar. However, the woman was already engaged to someone else and her parents were going to finalise her marriage date after the Ganapati festival, but her fiancé broke off the engagement after viewing her FB account in which her marital status revealed ‘engaged' with Nitin Nandgaonkar.

According to a police source, the woman is already engaged with a person living in Thane district. She lives with her parents in Bhayander East and works in a trading company situated in Malad. In August, she was introduced to her fiancé through a matrimonial wedding match site, and after the families liked the match, they were going to get married after the Ganesh Anand Chaturthi festival.
On August 24 her fiancé contacted her and questioned her about the FB account in which it was mentioned that she ‘engaged' with Nitin Nandgaonkar. She got very scared after hearing the news and tried to open her FB account from her phone but it did not open. She then searched her profile using her sister FB account and was shocked to see her family photos with Nandgaonkar and status "engaged".

The woman approached the Navghar police station and informed the police that someone with the intention of defaming her had created her fake account and uploaded the photo due to which her fiancé broke off their engagement. An investigating cop from Navghar police station said, "on the basis of her complaint we have registered the case under section 500 (Punishment for defamation) and section 66c of IT act on September 1, we are carrying out the investigation".
