A tactical team from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrived at the city yesterday, to extend an invitation to members of the city's police force for a two-week long training course to be held at Los Angeles in October.

The team will be given invaluable tactical training to help them deal with crimes big and small, ranging from terrorism to robbery and murder.

The 15-member team paid visits to various top-notch police officials in the city, and also its Anti-Terrorism Squad.
Accompanying the team were officials of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and National Security Guard (NSG).
The chief motive behind the visit is to gauge the Mumbai police's requirements in tactical training. The FBI team discussed its methodology in designing the course.

The training sessions will focus on crime scene management and evidence collection techniques. Following their return from Los Angeles, the trained cops will be appointed to special squads in the city.

"The FBI team met the Police Commissioner, the Joint Commissioners as well as several additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.

They paid us a visit to basically take stock of our requirements, before developing their course module," said a police officer.
Sunil Deshmukh, assistant commissioner of police, Dahisar division, participated in a similar course, held at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2006.
Deshmukh said, "It was a great experience, and the training sessions were outstanding. We trained in handling, detecting and disposing explosives. The facilities and equipment were state of the art."
