Two men have been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from a popular fast food outlet in north Mumbai after 'finding' a lizard in their pizza
Two men were shocked to find a lizard in their pizza at a popular fast food outlet in north Mumbai suburb of Kandivali. But the story took an unexpected turn after the store manager apologised to the customers. The duo then demanded Rs 5 lakh from the manager.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 8.00 pm at the Mahavir Nagar Pizza Hut franchisee store.
This store manager, Manoj Mohan Kotapirat, captured the entire episode on his mobile phone and registered an extortion case with the Kandivali police. The police have arrested the duo - Mirza Mudassar Iqbaal Beg (24) and Yusuf Samil Sheikh (23), both of whom are residents of Oshiwara.
A spokesperson of the fast food chain said, "This incident seems to be a clear case of conspiracy and extortion and a serious attempt to malign our brand. The franchisee store has filed a case of extortion and conspiracy. The matter is being investigated by the relevant authorities. It is impossible that a foreign object of such a size and state/nature would go unnoticed through our stringent quality checks at the store and in the kitchen."
The spokesperson added, "At Pizza Hut, customer safety is our top priority and we ensure that the highest standards of quality and hygiene are maintained at all of our restaurants. Will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the wrong doers are nabbed and justice is restored. We have the highest respect and regard for the law of the land. We are cooperating fully with the authorities and all should await the results of the investigation from the authorities."
